Babe Sarver’s love of the arts started with a Fine Arts degree (BFA) in photography and ceramics from Arizona State University.  There he experienced the hands-on, personal experience that working with a 4x5 film camera brought and the wonder of watching that image come alive through the chemistry in the dark room.

That was then.  Today it’s digital capture and a dark room encapsulated in a computer system.

Time has proven that photography is not a static industry as new techniques and technologies appear constantly…like digital cameras replacing film and computers replacing the dark room.  To stay in tune with industry changes Babe became a member of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) where he earned his Certified Professional Photographer (CPP) designation from the Professional Photographic Certification Commission of PPA…from 1999 to the present.

Babe, who with Production Manager Arlene Sarver, owns and operates Babe’s Photos, a portrait and commercial photography studio, successfully completed the requirements required to maintain his CPP designation under the guidelines established by the National Institute of Credentialing Excellence.

When people look for a photographer, they may think they know what they like when they see it, but it is important to know that the person behind the lens is professionally accredited.  Babe said, “It is our job to determine how to appropriately utilize the tools at hand to make the best possible image for our customer’s needs.  We have found that we achieve the greatest results when we 'get it right...in the camera' vs creating something in the computer. The 'computer dark room' allows us to fine tune an image, but it doesn't replace appropriate lighting and good camera technique."

Certified photographers must show that they have maintained the mark of excellence that the certification designation represents.  Babe earned this designation after meeting rigorous requirements that measure his artistic and technical competence.  To earn the CPP designation Babe passed a written exam, submitted images for peer review followed by PPA’s final accreditation evaluation which included interviews of existing clients.

Certification must be renewed every three years, ensuring continuing confidence in the professionalism of Certified Professional Photographers.  It declares that the photographer is one who has achieved and maintains a high standard including:

  • Consistency to achieve great results every time.
  • Technical skills to create lasting images utilizing knowledge of art, lighting, posing, fashion and interior design.
  • Unique artistry to create customized works of art.
  • Professionalism to provide customer service that exceeds expectations.

There's no greater proof of technical excellence and creative ability than when the letters "CPP" follow a photographer's name. They designate a Certified Professional Photographer as someone who is putting in the extra work to stay above the rest. It assures you of this photographer's professional knowledge and experience.
