The Story Behind…
Hotel Post

Hotel Weisses Rossl Post or The White Horse Inn is located in St. Wolfgang, Austria on the northern shore of the Wolfgangsee Lake at the foot of the Schafberg Mountain.

St. Wolfgang is famous for the White Horse Inn, the setting of the musical comedy “In the White Horse Inn”.  In 1930 the comedy play “Im Weiben Rossl am Wolfgangsee” , translated “In the White Horse Inn” premiered in Berlin.  Its success worldwide made St. Wolfgang world famous.

The White Horse Inn is actually an operetta or musical comedy about the head waiter of the Inn who is in love with the owner of the Inn, a young woman who at first only has eyes for one of her regular guests.

It was on a misty, overcast day that we found Hotel Post and captured it on film with a 4x5 large format camera.  Christmas decorations of brilliant colors adorned the entrance until well past the Epiphany.

One of our favorites from Austria.
