The Story Behind…
Yavapai Point

Yavapai Point offers excellent panoramic views of Havasupai Point to the west and Desert View to the east from the Grand Canyon South Rim perspective.

Two billion years have exposed the Grand Canyon geological history as the Colorado River cut channels through layer after layer of rock while the Colorado Plateau was uplifted.

Experience this same view point dusted with snow.  Weather in the Grand Canyon varies according to elevation and anecdotally it has been said to have its own weather patterns.  Forested rims like Yavapai Point are high enough to receive winter snowfall but along the Colorado River temperatures are similar to low elevation desert locations.  Conditions are usually dry but substantial precipitation occurs in late summer and winter.
